Dudamel, LA Phil, and Verdi “Rigoletto” at Hollywood Bowl 8/13/12

August 13, 2012

I visited Hollywood Bowl for the 3rd time this summer for a stage version of Verdi’s Rigoletto, an operatic tragedy. We did not have time to do Hollywood Bowl’s signature, “picnic”, but it was nice to be outside, especially for a cooler evening in Hollywood Hills. LA has been having a very hot weather lately, and it was a little relief to feel nice evening breeze in an open space. The program was Verdi’s Rigoletto, conducted by Dudamel, played by LA Phil, and sang by fantastic singers. The singers were excellent. Saljko Lucic’s Rigoletto was amazingly good, his voice, acting, character, nuances, everything. Irina Lungu was his daughter, Gilda. Lungu has a beautiful and smooth voice with unbelievable technique and expression. And she is a very pretty woman too. Duke was David Lomeli, a great tenor. His high notes, his acting, being in a character of womanizer, again very very good. The entire show was very enjoyable. Verdi knew what he was writing. – La donna mobile-  We must enjoy the summer while it last.
